Halle, 2023: A clash between various youth groups and the police escalates on the market square. It ends in looting, arrests and one badly injured person. This day changes the lives of a handful of environmental activists around 17-year-old Luise and is the trigger for their political radicalization. On the other side is Luise’s mother Catrin, chief inspector at the House of Youth Law. While they are confronted with the double standards of their parents, the young people repeatedly ask themselves the question: what kind of world do I want to live in and how far am I willing to go for it?

June 2024 marks the centenary of Franz Kafka’s death. The six-part mini-series is based on the three-volume biography of Kafka by Reiner Stach. It focuses primarily on the views of the people who were closest to him. The focus is on Kafka’s love affairs with Felice Bauer, Milena Jesenska and Dora Diamant as well as his difficult relationship with his tyrannical father. But also his close friendship with Max Brod, who was ultimately to betray his terminally ill friend, but helped him achieve lasting fame as a result.
